Grupo TACA: by Paul Glanville (based on prior work by R. Canjura) Grupo TACA is a strategic alliance between many Latin American airlines, most of which are the flag carriers for their respective countries. When originally formed in the late '80s, Grupo TACA was primarily a regional carrier with limited connectivity beyond Central America. However, in the late 90s, with the addition of TACA Peru, Grupo TACA gained dozens of connections throughout South America, and when Avianca (of Colombia) joined the alliance in 2009 the alliance gained connections to Frankfurt, London, Madrid, and Paris. Grupo TACA operates mostly Airbus A320 family aircraft (9 A319s, 25 A320s, and 5 A321s) along with a few Embraer E-190s (7). The average age of the fleet is less than 5 years. More Airbus and Embraer aircraft are on order. |

Mexicana: by Paul Glanville I saw a photo of this aircraft and thought "Damn, that's a cool looking plane!" According to Wikipedia Mexicana is not only Mexico's flag carrier, it is North America's oldest airline and the third oldest airline in the world operating the same name (after KLM and Quantas). Mexicana operates a mixed fleet consisting primarily of Airbus A320 and A330 aircraft (10 A318s, 21 A319s, 26 A320s, 2 A330s) and a handful of Boeing 767 (2 767-200s and 2 767-300s). Mexicana has more Airbus aircraft on order. |
